Compared with IPv4, IPv6 has more advantages such as its abundant IP addresses, therefore it has become the nuclear protocol of the next generation bone network in many countries. As one of important countries which research into and promote IPv6, Chins has established the CERNET2, the largest bone network in the word which completely makes use of the pure IPv6 technology. The CERNET2 bone network connect 25 nuclear node of 20 major cites in the country with a bandwidth of 2.5Gbps-10Gbps, at the same time , it is able to realize the high speed access to IPv6 for over 100 colleges and research institutes in the whole country. As an important guide line of the application and development of internet, the bandwidth of the network resource has been attracting people's attention all the time. It is not only the important basis for government to make policy of network information resource but also one of the important factors for network user and units to choose their network access provider, therefore, it is rather important for the development of network ,the bandwidth utility ,the route choice, the capability of network ,to know the current situation of bandwidth of network, and measure bandwidth of the network correctly . The paper firstly gave an introduction of the current situation of bandwidth measurement and the specific method, then it defined the bandwidth of the bandwidth, and did some research in to the single packet, double packets, multi-packets models of the measurement of bandwidth, as well as their working theory and characteristics. Also, the author pointed out the disadvantages of measuring arithmetic: The measurement packet put into the network will make serious negative affect to network capacity; the measuring is too idealization; showing a great distance with the reality; the affect of bandwidth measure existing link layer protocol and time deviation is neglected. Considering the fact that tunnels are widely used when IPv4 is smoothly transiting to IPv6, and the disadvantage of available measurement of the bandwidth of the network, based on the arithmetic of packet to bandwidth measurement, the paper give one ameliorating arithmetic which based on vary double packets ,it is also subtrational and one way .the improved arithmetic has several advantages as follows: the number of sending detect grouping is decreased; the affect of queue data packets is lightened; the error of route dissymmetry caused by backhaul is avoided; the effect of link layers to measurement of the bandwidth of the network is eliminate; and the affect of time deviation is cut down. Based on the deep understanding of the IPv6 protocol, the paper gave a design of realization method of bandwidth measurement of IPv6 network, and proposed creatively to realize the strict path controlling of the arithmetic measurement of double packets when measuring by making use of the flow label of IPv6 header . Finally, the verification of the arithmetic improvement is realized by using to professional network simulation software OPNET 10.0 and proved the superiority of the improved arithmetic.
