In ship design, a majority of engineering diagram are drawed by using AutoCAD. In the design period, it is very difficult to manage these engineering diagrams. In design, a lot of work which involves collection, decomposition and classification, need to be done manual instead of using AutoCAD. This lengthens the period of design, and becomes the bottleneck of improve the design efficiency and quality. This paper integrates the design founction of AutoCAD and the data management founction of FoxPro, to solve problems arising in ship electric design.The main content of this study is as follows:1. Define part's properties by using AutoCAD in the period of drawing diagrams, then extract the information from diagrams. This paper introduces the process of designing the welding parts and machine model database with properities, as well as the method of extractiong propertyinformation.2. The electricity weld tray form and the software used to creat the list of welding parts are defined by the use of AutoCAD. Using this software can creat the list of the electricity weld tray form, the list of electric electricity equipment tray form and material detailed list automatically.3. The software system is proved to be hign efficient and successful, for it has been used in ship design successful. CAD drawing and the technique of database perform well in the design of electric design of the ship.
