With the development of IT technology, the Web has grown up into a huge distributed information space which has held several hundreds million users, and the amount of users is growing quickly. Therefore, how to find out the needful information in good time and the disorientation have become the serious problems which are worrying the users, and how to supply the convenient and compact service has become the problem which faces the merchants. In real life, we solve the problems such as the disorientation by using the map in general. In the Web, we can use the sitemap to solve the similar problems. The Web is an information space, and the graphic is the expression form which is predominant on helping the users comprehend the structure of the information space and quickly find out the needful information. Therefore, in this thesis, we design and develop the fisheye view based sitemap grounded on the users browsing behavior research and the information visualization technology, then do the usability studies on this sitemap again and again, and improve this sitemap based on the outcomes of the studies reiteratively. The results show that the fisheye view based sitemap is predominant on helping the users solve the problems such as the disorientation. For designing the satisfying sitemap, it is necessary to do the studies on the sitemap and improve it reiteratively. This thesis is composed of six parts mainly. Firstly, we introduce background and related work of our project and overview of our research work. The foundation of sitemap design technology is given in the second part of this thesis. In the part of third, we present the design and development of sitemap and CASE tool. The usability study on sitemap is described in the fourth part. The last part is the conclusion.
