Chen zhensun was a famous bibliographer and collector of books in the southern song Dynasty. He served as an official at Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian province of china before his fifty years old, Where were well-developed in publication course. As he was fond of reading, he collected a large number of books by buying or by borrowing for copying with hand.Based on these abounded books, he spent several decades collating,compiled his representative work "Zhizhai Content Explanation", modelled after "Junzhai Dushu zhi" .His work is a milestone of the history of bibliography in china.Its main achievements as follows:1 , His works widely refcects a survey of issued books before the southern song Dynasty.2 , On systematic library.his work adjusted or increased suitable catalogues,which were not only corresponding to the traditionl classification but added new ones as well.3 , Invented the item of "Explanation(Jieti)" in the catalogue, which is concise, mainly touches upon the author, the importance, the content, the material, the feature, the true or false, the issued time,the edition etc.of a book.The aspect of telling true from false is especially worth mentioning, which provides scientific and complete methods, enriched this subject.He also expressed his peculiar opinions in historiography, which reflects not only his profound knowledge and extensive learning, but also his strict attitude towards researching and learing.
