Research Of Knowledge Service Model Of Learning Object Repository

Learning Object Repository (LOR) is a very important component of web-based learning environment, which provides services for users to facilitate learning and teaching based on LOR and the management of LOR. With the dramantic increase of available Learning Objects, the traditional services of LOR are not meet the requirements of users, and cause the serious decrease of the efficiecy of learning, teaching and managing. As a consequence, LOR has become a restricted factor of the development of web-based learning.How to provide better services to make user teach, learn and manage effectively, insuring the quality of web-based learning is an important point in recent study of web-based learning.In this paper, a concept of LOR knowledge service is introduced as a solution to overcome the shortages of traditional LOR services.Firstly, the difinition, types, features of LOR knowledge service is described. Then, a model of LOR knowledge service, which is called LORKSM is proposed. In the discussion of LORKSM, the key elements and serving process of LOR knowledge service are described. To the issue of the implementation of LORKSM, some methords and technology are suggested to establish LOR knowledge service system (abbr. LORKSS), such as XML-based knowledge representation, intelligent agent and software componet technologies.
