In recent years, the web based multimedia conference system begins to offer functions such as teleconference, whiteboard, sharable application and file transfer with the development of computer and network communication technology. At the same time, the conference system which becomes a very important entironment and tool of Computer Supported Cooperative Work system is becoming a hotspot of the research field inland and overseas, with the research on CSCW in detail.The background of this thesis is a project of cooperative design and management system for a design institute. Some new technologies used in Internet/Intranet and COM technology are used to research and design a multimedia conference system as a CSCW tool. This thesis provides and performs a scheme of NetMeeting COM based multimedia conference system.Firstly, this thesis introduces the definition of multimedia conference, its development situation and trend, and the related definition of CSCW.Secondly,a model of multimedia conference is designed based on the analysis of its function requirement. After studying some available technologies, NetMeeting COM technology is adopted in the system development. Software component is characterized by "Plug and Play" . While designing and implementing application software, we can divide the frame of application software into some different components, which are all assembled through standard interface.Thirdly, a powerful multimedia conference based on model mentioned above is formed, and a web based conference is customized to fulfil some users' requirement on starting session through the browser. At this part,we implement the conference system in different mode after carefully studying NetMeeting SDK and function modules in software system. Finally, the system is tested and some conclusions and prospects are made.
