The reliable multicast technology was introduced to solve theproblems such as the optimization usage of the network resources,unreliable communication and unordered of the message in the IPmulticast. At present, This technology has widely used in thereliable media flows and releases, pass the information issue ofthe satellite channel, the airport control systems, the issue ofthe quotations of the stocks, the data update of the large-scaledistributed websites, synchronism of the distributed database,transmission of the messages among the distributed targets,military command system of battle field, even such fields as thenetwork games etc.So far, there are many reliable multicast protocols in the wide areanetwork, including the Scalable Reliable Multicast Protocol, theReliable Multicast Protocol, the Reliable Multicast TransportProtocol, the Tree-based Multicast Transport Protocol, theReliable Adaptive Multicast Protocol, the Log-Based ReliableMulticast Protocol, the Multicast Transport Protocol and so on.The Scalable Reliable Multicast Protocol was mainly designedfor the distributed whiteboard. The Reliable Multicast Protocol wasmainly designed to support the global order. The Reliable MulticastTransport Protocol was mainly designed to files'distribution inthe wide range. The Tree-based Multicast Transport Protocol wasmainly used in data distribution faced alternated and cooperatedapplication.Using different mechanism, from different point of view, allprotocols solves the reliable multicast's kernel problem. That isto say, how to get back the lost message quickly andhigh-efficiently in order to receivers receive the correct, orderlymessage by according to the communication course of the network.However, any kind of multicast protocols is always existingshortage and dissatisfied in using. There are mainly two following factors to restrain the reliablemulticast development. The first is restriction in using. Thesecond is the network limiting. With the development of reliable multicast model, one-to-manycommunications model do not satisfy people's requirements, andmany-to-many communications model is necessity. However, theseexited reliable multicast protocols most are based on one-to-manycommunications model, which can not use in many-to-many reliablemulticast directly .If these protocols ware used directly ininternet, it must damage the performance of reliable multicastprotocols and network's normal working. The paper analyzes the ideal reliable multicast model and thereliable multicast technology, and expounds the dialecticalrelation of the multicast group foundation and maintenance, thecongestion control and the loss recovery. Based on the requisition analysis of many to many group islandslevel multicast, the reliable many-to-many group islands levelmulticast protocols has been put forward. The kernel of theprotocols is the floor control, and the basic framework is theglobal multicast which is made up of the group island layers andbackbone layer, the protocols use feedback and repair mechanism ofRAM and RMTP.
