Video Conference System is a kind of multimedia and networking communications supporting technology, which is used for holding conferences by the compute terminal users. In recent years, Video Conference System had great improvement with the development of compute hardware and digital video technique. It becomes a very effective tool for communications and is wildly used in economic, scientific researches and cultural exchanges. No doubt, as the development of video conference system and its relative technologies, and the communication requirements in our modern society become essential, video conference, as a new communication instrument, will have even wider market. In this thesis, through discussing the national and overseas recent researches on Video Conference and analyzing the theory and realization of multicast technique based on IP network, it focus on introducing a project of realizing multicast communications and the collection and return technique of video and sound in the Video Conference based on IP network .The major task in the thesis has two parts: (1) A project which utilized WINSOCK technology on Windows XP by Visual C++ after analyzing the multicast theory is introduced. The video and sound data of Video Conference are transmitted on the multicast communications platform. (2) The collection and return of video and sound data in the Video Conference is implemented by Microsoft RTC Client component. This thesis is divided into six parts. The first part introduces the application and development of videoconference and the scope is covered in. The related techniques of the communication plane used by videoconference and data processing, such as TCP/IP protocol , H.323 protocol,Winsock API and so on are included in the second part . IP multicast technology is the emphases in this part. A design of the Video Conference based on IP multicast network is introduced in the third part after synthesize the technologies mention before. The design includes that a great deal of video and sound data of Video Conference is transmitted on the multicast communication plane while the others such as control information and the data offered by the program are transmitted by unicast. In the fourth part, the project which IP multicast network build on WINSOCK utilized VC6.0 is introduced. The fifth part lays emphasis upon the function of Microsoft RTC component and the process of the collection and return of video and sound data in RTC Client component. The last part is the prospect of Video Conference System.
