Along with rapid development in computer technology, computer animation is used in more and more aspect of society. Computer Animation is becoming one part of people's life. With the rapid development of computer technology, computer animation has been used increasingly in demonstrations, tutorials, instructions, educational materials, Hollywood movies, and flight simulations to educate people on various functions and procedures. Generating animation based on realistic motion data of human subjects, object, or video stream has been an increasingly hot research topic. Paper cut-out is our country's traditional art and widely used in many aspects. This thesis aims to study the theory, approach and technology of how to make paper cut-out animation based on the motion data extracted from sequential images. According to the feature of motion quadruped and simple structure of paper cut-out object, a framework model with 12 joints is used which can effectively describe paper cut-out objects. Analysis of motion quadruped makes it possible to create lifelike motion. When we analyze motion quadruped, we make an effort to find the rule of motion quadruped. We first extract motion data from sequential images of an object for generating our model's keyframes according to motion capture. At the same time, control points of cubic is created. Interpolation frames are created based on kinematic principle after key joint interpolation, which decrease the complexity of making interpolation frames. As a result, sequential animation can be generated. Control points of cubic paper cut-out are attached to framework model. The relationship between control points of cubic paper cut-out and framework varies with the type of paper cut-out objects. The Contour of paper cut-out objects is simulated by means of cubic paper cut-out. In order to let quadruped objects have unique feature of paper cut-out, we use texture mapping and decorative pattern rendering. Beside contour of paper cut-out objects, with information of paper cut-out type and location of framework we can locate all decorative pattern of a certain paper cut-out object. Since there are observation errors and the sequence of images are not complete, the sequence of motion parameters may contain some illogical data. After excluding these illogical data, we use the sequence of motion parameters to generate a correct sequence of keyframes. The main contributions of this thesis are summarized as follows: We created a framework of quadruped and analyze the motion features of the quadruped in detail. Based on the motion data extracted from sequential images, we propose an approach for generating a sequence of animation frames by kinematic principle. We combine texture mapping technology and decorative pattern rendering to describe the feature of paper cut-out objects. Using some motion data extracted from sequential images many experiments have been conducted. The experimental results show that the motion data which be optimized can produce lifelike animation, and the use of our paper cut-out rendering method can make paper cut-out objects resembled its in fact.
