In recent years, with the sharp increasing of the numbers of the automobile, the services of the vehicle positioning and navigating are developed speedily. The maturity of the software and hardware resources and the improvement of the technology of the embedded system offer the excellent solution to the vehicle navigation terminal. In addition to these, the fast development and wide application of GPS and GIS provide the powerful instrumentality for the realization of ITS. This thesis proposes an efficient way to design and implementation of vehicle terminal with the technologies of GPS, GIS and embedded system.This thesis introduces the overview of the development of embedded technology at present firstly. On the basis of comparing and analyzing, μC/OS-Ⅱ, the real-time kernel, and ARM7 are adopted as the solutions of the vehicle terminal system.Then, this paper gives a description of the basic principle and key technologies of the embedded system as well as the implementation of the vehicle terminal system in detail. μC/OS-Ⅱ version 2.71 and S3C44B0X (Samsung 32-bit RISC processor, ARM7TDMI core) are took as the embedded operating system and embedded processor separately. The soft solutions are accomplished on ARM assembly language and C language. The map data used of this system is drawn out from the standard electronic map of Maplnfo format, and changed into self-defining special format.The designed system is implemented with electronic vector mapping function, vehicle positioning and navigating function, vehicle-track showing function etc. This system has used in .
