Nowadays in mobile and wireless networks environment, Mobile IP is thepreferred standard in supporting host mobility among several standards. However, several problems still need to be solved. One of them is the triangle routingproblem. The method of solving this problem is to shorten the route of the packet. In this paper, we present an routing agent architecture to solve this problem. Thearchitecture can intercept datagrams earlier and determine to tunnel theincoming packet or not ,and reduce packet's routing length. This route agent iscalled Middle Mobility Agent(MMA).An analytical model and a simulationenvironment were set up to evaluate and measure the packet's routing lengthand delay time of proposed architecture. The evaluation and simulation resultsdemonstrate that the proposed method can reduce the routing length, delay timeand solve the triangle routing problem. Multicast has the characters such as goodscalability and efficiency, which is more important in the mobile environmentwhere sources are limited. So the combination of mobile IP and multicast attractsmore and more attentions. In this paper, we first introduce the generation, basic conception and basicoperation of Mobile IP in brief, which will help reader to understand it better. Atpresent, the research on mobile multicast is still in the stage of beginning, andthe mobile multicast protocols have some shortcomings. We should carry outresearch and improvement. In the first chapter, we also describe the basic ideasof mobile multicast protocols. In chapter 2, wo study the triangle routing problem existing in mobile IP, andcompare the mobile IP route optimization methods, even point out theirdisadvantages. In chapter 3, we design a new mobile IP route optimizationmethod. When the MH arrives in the foreign network, the upper router canintercept it, and determine whether or not to encapsulate the packet and routeit, so as to reduce the route length. In chapter 4, we use the simulator to do simulational experiments and resultanalysis. The results show that our method has greater improvement than themethods already existed. In capter 5, we use the evaluation standard of mobile multicast to compareand analysize the mobile multicast protocols that already existed. In the end, weconclude our job and present the research direction in the future.
