The Investigation And Implementation Of The Integrated Network Resource Management For MAN

This paper analyses the resource management theory and the resourcemanagement technique of MAN(Metropolitan Area Network) byintroducing the development and characteristic of MAN, including resourceexploration , resource collection ,resource integration and resource display,among these four aspects ,the most difficult and important is resource collectand resource display.At present MAN has develop rapidly in constructing , In order toconnect to Internet ,most of the MAN is constructed using IP-based networktechnologies as its core technology and others as assistant ,especially ATM asits assistant. So we will mainly discuss resource management aroundIP-based and ATM-based resource .Here we can partition the MAN'stopology into there layers: the backbone layer, the convergence layer and theaccess layer .The backbone layer is composed with Broadband Router ,whichtake responsibility for the connection of Man and Internet ,the convergencelayer is composed mainly with three-layer switcher ,which provides theability to pooling the network traffic ,and to route traffic to backbonelayer .The access layer is main composed with two-layer switcher and accessdevice ,which take responsibility for the user to access .Because there are somany access layer devices ,and they are produced by different manufacturer ,this make the architecture more complex ,and hard to manage. Because ofthese characteristic ,We faced higher level requirement. First , we shouldmanage all the devices ,so we must the research the architecture of thenetwork and the characteristic of each management system .Second the numof devices we will managed is huge , this asked our system have morecapability , Third the MAN is still developed rapidly ,so we must make oursystem have better expansibility .In a word, A integrated resourcemanagement system is needed which have good expansibility and canmanage all the devices in the MAN..Resource exploration is that we try to detect and identify the entityresource of network by network technologies ,and then get part topology ofthe network .In MAN, the num of backbone device is very small, so weimport these device manually , But as to convergence-layer devices andaccess-layer devices ,we should provide some auto way .Forconvergence-layer devices , most of them is IP-based three-layer switcher, forexample ,cicso 4006, harbour Flex 24,etc.First We have a IP table of ourMAN ,and then we ping these IP address using ICMP or TCP to detectwhether a device exist or not ,If we find a device ,we will collect its basicMIB information using SNMP, and then judge its manufacturer and kind byits sysObjectID .As to its topology's exploration, we finish it by collectingthe router table information by SNMP ,and then get the connectioninformation from the router table .To detect the access-layer device, we findthe resolution by the manufacturer's management system .To the devices ofHuaWei, Their management system use HGMP to manage their own devices,we will get the topology information by analysis there private MIB ofHGMP .The same way to essission devices, we find the topology from theirprivate MIB of CP, the machine their management system is running on. After the exploration of resource ,we need collect the detailedinformation of resource. There are six kinds of collection : SNMP-basedcollection ; ESM-based collection; file-based collection ; serial port-basedcollection ;telnet-based collection and agent-based collection . For our system,we mainly used SNMP-based collection ,and others as assistant .As toSNMP-based collection ,there are two kind of task: one is real-timerequirement of collection ,for example, the collection of link's quality, theother is data polling requirement .For the requirement of data polling , thedata amount is very huge, and require high veracity .So in order to ensure theefficiency and usability of our system by using our collection-servercompletely ,we adopt clusters technique to implement our system .First wedeeply analysis the characteristic of our collection ,including wholecollection task and the collection-ability of our collection-server, based onthis ,we divide our task to granularity, and then analysis the factor thatinfluence the ability of our collection-server by the means of analysis ofvariance: the utilizable of cpu,the utilizable of memory, the bandwidth ofnetwork; Based on these factor ,we define our schedule algorithmic, and testindicate the efficiency and usability of our system has improved remarkablyafter we adopt cluster technology. Resource integration means pre-process the row collected data , and thenprovide formatted data as requirement of display-layer for display .Weimplement resource integration using EJB technology , After we deeplyanalysis the requirement of resource topology ,we empolder common beanfor resource integration by abstracting common aspect of these data ,and thendeploy it to weblogic, so display-layer can get data that they needed bycalling these services .
