| Medical images were often used and preserved for a very long time as a kind of important information record of diagnosis process, and it becomes a very heavy burden to keep all these data year after year no matter to the hospital, manager, user or to the manage tools. So it is means a lot to build modern digital hospital to find a more effective way to save these medical images, and this is the main purpose of medical image compression.The second reason of medical image compression is to be convenient for transmission and display under network environment.But medical images are not the same as common images, they have their own characteristics, for example, there is part of useless information in the CT image, and it's a kind of waste to save this information.If these characteristics can be fully utilized and combined with the traditional compression methods, and decreasing the compressed image size while keeping as much information, the image saving and network transmission will be benefited . The article is a try based on the thought, choosing the effective region through Region Selective, processing wavelet transform to the selected region and output the compressed image through arithmetic code. The test result shows that the method has a good compression effect. |
