Gas holder is very popular in energy industry and iron-steel industry. To ensure it working safely is very important. However there is not a mature monitoring system applied in this field perfectly. In order to solve this problem, this thesis puts forward an on-line monitoring system that integrated different technical subjects, such as optical fiber sensing technology, advanced computer technologies both in hardware and software, the technologies of intelligent instrument, auto-control and communication technology. Optical fiber gauge is introduced, its non-electricity signal at measuring site will provide powerful guaranty of essential safely.According to the actual situation of dry gas holder and based on the industrial automation configuration technology and computer supervising technology, and we have made up modern monitoring system. It adopts distributed control system in the structure. The monitoring and controlling functions are realized by the SCM(Single Chip Micyoco), data processing implemented by the optical fiber sensor and intelligent instrument, and the station operating is implemented by the IPC(Industry Personal Computer). Topper computer used KingView6.03 to carry out the processing configuration. Its functions include data displaying, MMI, supervising whole craftwork and control system and form printing. The serial communication between the IPC and SCM is performed by DDE technology and serial interface technology.The system has the functions of automatic measurement, display, alarm, and print. Except that, it has good expansibility and maintainability. So it could run stably and reliably. The operator could know the tilt condition of the piston in the real time and could do adjusting to control the gas speed. So the accident caused by worse further tilt can be avoided. The system reduces the working intensity and improves the management level. This project is worth to popularize in application.
