With the development of computer, medical imaging technology, Computer Tomography (CT) is implied in the medical widely. Doctors can know more about the patient's situation with the aid of CT which has high definition, can detect many tissues of human and display them with the image mode. In order to raise the diagnostic ability of CT and analyze the state of an illness more exactly, the 2-D and 3-D CT images must be displayed more clearly.According to the existing problems of CT, the purpose of this paper is designing and realizing a processing and 3-D visualizing system of CT images automatically and manually based on surveying the developing situation of CT extensively. With the help of this system, the doctor can diagnose the illness more correctly and more convenient. It has the advantage of high practicability.Aiming at the purpose above, this paper makes mass of research and experiments combining anatomy, imaging principle of CT, medical imaging, medical DICOM standard, digital image processing, computer graphics and 3-D visualization technology etc. An automatic segmentation method of value of tissues of thorax image, a semi-automatic segmentation method of focus, an enhancement method of value of tissues in a grayscale multi-window mode, an automatically making method of color CT, a gradual and fast direct volume rendering method are been proposed. More over, thispaper makes primary research of virtual endoscopy.In the period of image segmentation, this paper finds the threshold points of each tissue automatically firstly, then obtains the each tissue region effectively by rough segmentation and detailed segmentation. At last, enhances the image of each tissue in single-window and multi-window mode according to the proposed algorithm.During the course of semi-automatic segmentation of focus, the paper locates the focus region combining with the doctor's manual region information and region growing method. It also can obtain the geometry property of appointed region correctly through the medical measurement method.The paper can realize the 3-D visualization of single and multiple tissues through gradual and fast direct volume rendering method according to the symmetry property of 3-D solid and the redundancy of data and the principle of the ray tracing theory.The experimental results indicate that the proposed methods are applicable to different imaging system, variable patients and can satisfy the requirement in practices on the whole.
