With the development of computer and communication technology, network video and stream media appear. To meet the demand of the people, ITU and ISO/IEC join hands to develop the new video coding standard of the H.264/AVC. By adopting a number of new coding techniques, it has achieved a significant improvement in compression performance and a "network-friendly" video representation relative to existing standards. Embedded system is the popular research subjects of the computer, which is the platform of the H.264/AVC coding system. Blackfin533 is the new multimedia chip for the H.264/AVC and MPEG-4. So, the study of the combination of the H.264/AVC and embedded system based on the Blackfin533 is important for the application of H.264/AVC.The author's study is mainly in the application of H.264/AVC and the embedded system based on the Blackfin533. First, the author learns the basic thought and theory, studies the inter and intra prediction, the integer transform, the entropy coding, and so on, analyzes the detail of the standard, learns the syntax and semantics of the H.264/AVC. Second, the author learns the structure, the bus, the management of memory, management of the cache of the Blackfin533, studies the Instruction Set of the Blackfin533. The structure of program and video instruction is learned. By studying the structure and theory of the ADSP—BF533 EZ-KIT LITE evaluation board, the author finds that it is short of Ethernet interface, and improves on it by adding a Ethernet interface based on the slot. Finally, the ADSP—BF533 EZ—KIT LITE evaluation board is employed as the video coding system. The H.264/AVC coding system based on Blackfin533 is developed. By analyzing the theory of the video coding system, the author gives the I2C (Inter IC) program to initializing the system. Because the system processes the CIF(Common Intermedia Format) image, we need to convert the PAL image to the CIF image. As the video coding is sensing the bandwidth, we test the transmission of the DMA. We give the integer transform program optimized to the Blackfin533.
