Nowadays, among all kinds of information we have got, visual information is about 60—70 percent of all. So the video communication technology aimed at transmitting and processing visual information developed quickly. However, the amount of the information of digital image is amazing. This brings great difficulty to transmit and store information and also affects the development of video communication. To solve this problem, we must apply the video coding technology.The video coding always uses two basic principles: The first is taking advantage of the properties of the statistics of the image signals, that is, the images have similarity among the neighboring pixels and frames, we can get rid of the redundancy according to the information theory; The second is taking advantage of the properties of the visual features of human eyes, we can achieve the goal of image coding by decreasing some high frequency signals which is not sensitive for human eyes. There are two demands for video coding: one is enough compression radio, the other is high quality of the reconstructed image.Video coding includes predictive coding, transform coding and entropy.In one image, there is strong similarity between the pixels.
