Nowadays the increasingly swift and violent development of IP technology is promoting the further amalgamation of heterogeneous networks. During the process of macro-amalgamation, there exist the combination and interworking between VoIP networks based on differentiated standard (H.323, SIP etc.), and those between VoIP networks and PSTN. Meanwhile, network generation network is offered the impetus to proceed by the amalgamation of VoIP networks.The paper, under such a spectacular background, is intended to solve one of the most formidable challenges on the way to the amalgamation of VoIP networks, VoIP routing issues, and the corresponding solving manners, VoIP routing technologies. In order to better settle VoIP routing issues from the theoretical and practical perspective, the paper firstly summary three optional VoIP routing patterns or systems, ITAD location server pattern, tree-type gateway domain enquiry system, and static level-gateway routing system. Furthermore, the paper focuses on deep analysis, research and performance test of TRIP (Telephony Routing over IP), the typical one of ITAD location server patterns, and makes a series of pioneering research works.The whole paper totally has four major pivots. The first is that the author makes full use of the result of TRIP theory research to initiate the theory and pattern of enhanced ENUM system. The second is that the author elucidates the VoIP routing driving policy, decision process and relevant service model. The third is that the author constructs a SIP routing network on Opnet platform, and successfully simulates the operation of TRIP. The paper completely presents the network pattern, system parameter, operation steps, testing cases and simulation data, and so on. At last, the paper induces a theoretical conclusion from raw simulation data, and thus offers the significant meaning of the performance test for building a successful practical TRIP network further.
