LBSs (Location-Based Service) are services accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network, which firstly locate the terminals with GPS and network positioning technology, and then provided information services related to the position of terminals. LBS conveys such an idea:"people can enjoy spatial information services at any time, at any places". LBS is a fusion of spatial information technology (GPS, GIS), mobile communication, embedded technique, which reflects a tendency of socialization of spatial information and has promising market revenue. However, companies of LBS industry in China have not provided completed LBS solution cases and appropriate LBS terminals.The thesis mainly discussed related concepts of LBS, the design and implementation of LBS system. The research of this thesis involves mobile communication and wireless network, embedded development, software interoperation, XML, GIS, GPS and navigation and the technology of "3S" integration.Firstly the thesis introduced the generation background, status quo of LBS development and analyzed concepts and technology background in detail related to LBS. On the basis of understanding LBS's concepts clearly we submitted a design case of LBS system. The thesis presented the overall architecture of LBS, function modules design,and application patterns. We placed the emphasis on the design of system interoperation, design of data exchange format. The thesis also presented the implementation of the case detailedly including navigation function development, wireless location service function development, network programming. Finally this thesis analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of this solution case. To improve the deficiency, we submitted another LBS solution case based on Web Service. We compared these two cases and pointed out the principle of LBS system design.The emphasis of the thesis was the design of interoperation pattern in LBS system and the design and development of embedded LBS clients. The design case of LBS was also based on the solution of above two problems. In the section of development of embedded client, we made a detailed interpretation on the key technique problems in system implementation, including XML parser on WinCE, network programming on WinCE, the display of JPG/PNG file on WinCE, and summarized the universal problems and practical engineering experiences in development based on Wince.
