Recently, Science communication has received attention of the scholars in the circles of scientific culture and science popularization. Research about science communication has made progress in China. However, we could find that there is little research about the mechanism and models of public communication of science(MPCS below), which is very important in science communication research. The paper is concerning about the research of MPCS in Europe and America. We can find that theories about MPCS include three kinds, i.e. traditional models, alternation models and some new models in the background of media-isolation. Generally speaking, theories about MPCS have a process from linear models to divergent models, and then web models. There are many backgrounds and hypothesis in this process, which are worth to concern. Traditional models (canonical account models and others) was given after science construction. In these models, the "reduced" science knowledge is popularized to the public through the media, which is simple but has many problems. The criticism comes from two ways : Psychology research proved that how the public learn the science is not passivity but activity process .On the other hand , Some scholars find that the bounder between science and common sense is not so clear as the traditional models think. They think that science communication is not a kind of communication but a part of science, and MPCS is the last process of the science communication. The relations between the media, the science and the public become more and more complex with the development of media. John Durant finds that the media and the public can feed back each other in science communication. Web models given by Bruce Lewenstein prove that the complexity of communication leads to the informational instability. In Peter Weingart's opinion, science means intermedia, and the media has replaced the monopoly station of the science.
