Agent technology is one of the research hotspots in the field of computer science. It is a new technology that can be effectively used in analyzing, specifying and implementing applications which are complex, large-scaled and distributed. The application of agent technology in Air Combat Simulation(ACS) is studied in this paper. By the research of the characteristics of Multi-Agent System and ACS, we design and construct a General Agent Template (GAT) which is based on the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) agent architecture. It can be used to develop Multi-Agent System. GAT provides the basic frame for the Multi-Agent System, and the key problems such as knowledge representation, behavior decision, communication language are emphatically solved in the GAT. An efficient method of knowledge representation based on relation model is used in GAT. We design various communication mechanisms and select KQML as the agent communication language. Based on GAT, we can efficiently accelerate the development of MAS.The prototype of the Air Combat Simulation System(ACSS) has been developed to validate the method. In this paper, the architecture of ACSS is presented detailedly, the design and the implementation approaches for each kind of agents such as Aircraft Agent, Simulation Run Time Agent, User Interface Agent and Simulation Analysis Agent are described, and the main functions of ACSS are briefly specified.
