High pulse power technology is a rising technology in electricity physics. It has played an important role in national defence research during these years. This paper describes the construction and research of a computer control system for high pulse power driving supplies with virtual instrument and intelligent-fault-tolerance technology. Combined the principal of industry control with high pulse power technology, the computer control system performs reliably, stably by rule and line. It has the currency and practicability in the field of intelligent control for high pulse power, and it fits the needs of development of high technology in the future.Firstly, the paper introduces the process of high pulse power technology and the computer control technology both inside and outside China. The correlative feasibility is analyzed. The major principles to be followed and the task of establishing both software and hardware systems are brought forward according to design rules commonly used in industry control.Secondly, the paper discusses the technology of high pulse power, optical fiber communications, virtual instrument and the intelligent- fault-tolerance software design. The basic characteristics and the realization methods of all of the above technology andthe serial interface protocol connections, which will be used in the system, are also discussed, prepared for constructing computer control system.Thirdly, the design and implementation of hardware is introduced in this paper. The workstation, communication devices, optical fiber equipment and the power supply isolation devices are chosen to form the hardware system, based on the principles of logical design, time order check, load check and so on. Communications are fulfilled through optical fiber, and the signal transform circuit is designed. The serial interface protocol connections and the long-distance power on-off criterion are formulated. And the data acquisition circuit are designed to form local control system.Then from the view of software, the applications of long-distance control system and the local control system, including the design of virtual digital pulse modulator, digital delay trigger device and long-distance power on-off device, are made in the way of virtual instrument technology. The network information and control exchange protocol are made to establish a well-performed digital control platform.At the same time, the intelligent-fault-tolerance project for the whole system are realized to aim at failures of either software or hardware of a computer control system according to the principles of intelligent-fault-tolerance design. That improves the reliability of communications, information disposal and so on.Finally, the total performance of the computer control system is summarized, and the future work from the improvement of hardware and software to the realization of networked control system is also presented.
