With the explosive growth of the increasing demand for multimedia application on the massive fields, transporting real-time multimedia information especial video information over internet has received tremendous attention from academia and industry. Transmission of real-time multimedia information has bandwidth, delay and loss requirements. However, there is no quality of service (QoS) guarantee for multimedia transmission over the internet. So there are many issues need to be studied in multimedia real-time transmission over the Internet such as congestion control or image recognition.This document design and implement a real-time multimedia information (including video and audio) transporting over the Internet system. The system is extensible. It has many extensible interfaces. Based on this system, we can do much research concerning multimedia. This is a comparatively advanced system which accord with newly technology and standard. At the same time, the system accord with the Object Oriented software development engineering idea and the module of the system can be reused by the other system.The main contribution of this paper includes:1. After carefully studying and analyzing the current multimedia real-time transmission system, considering the technology key point and future application, we propose the framework of the transmission system.2. We establish the software architecture include video/audio capture methods, Codec technology, network transmission technology. This system focus on the transmission of streaming media over low bit rate network. Our video/audio compression schema accord with H.323's recommendation.3. The system is an integrated module. It can be used as a module by the other system. We propose the interface for farther study such as QoS control or image recognizing.This document discusses in detail the key technology involved in the realization of the multimedia real-time transmission over Internet system including: digital image compression technology, network streaming media technology, real-time transmission technology, the Object Oriented software development methods etc.We related it in the following 4 part: Firstly, we introduced the technical backgrounds and actualities in the development of the real-time multimedia stream transmission system. Secondly, we described the key technologies involved in the realization of the system and provide a solution to implementation of the system by our realistic situation. Thirdly, we described in detail the realization of the system .At the end of this document, we point out the problems need to be resolved and gives perspectives of the further development direction of the system.
