The network display belongs to the category of the handheld display. It carrys on communication through Ethernet and serial ports and mainly used to display long-distance data in the industrial place. It has higher practical value and better market prospects. This paper has introduced research and development situation of handheld display and embedded technology at domestic and international, on the basis of synthesizing various kinds of embedded operating systems nowing , have analysed the advantage and defect of using Linux as the operating system ; Later, Then, It gives the total solution of the embedded system design and develop the step from software to focus on. This system adopts S3C44B0X embedded microprocessor hardware platform of Samsung; Because S3C44B0X processor has no MMU, we adopt uClinux, which is specially amended for processors with no MMU, as the operating system; It is developed under GNU open source software tools (gcc and its cross-compiler, toolchain). The main content includes transplanting of Linux kernel, programming of ARM processor ,the function and realization of Boot Loader, the designation and addition of drivers and application programs etc.Thereinto, The transplanting of Linux kernel is fore and basement of embedded system developing .Boot Loader is a short program to load operation system .In this paper, we add application programs in module mode, which is a good way to work in simply system that rarely change the program.Through the development of this product, we study the application of embedded Linux operating system on ARM processors, and provide tools and approach for the designation of such embedded products.
