With the development of e-Business, the enterprises need a kind of distributed model to implement EAI&B2BI. First, this distributed model should be independent of provider, platform and programming language; secondly it must have excellent interoperability between applications; at last it must easy to publish and find application for programmer. Web Service occurs to meet these requirements!Web Service is a kind of conception and technology that wants to make the Internet/Intranet a virtual computing environment, it based on open standards and specifications. Web Service is supported by XML, SOAP, WSDL and UDDI technology: XML provides a standard data exchanging format between various applications, SOAP takes charge of the calling of Web Service, WSDL gives us a formal description of Web Service, and UDDI introduces the ability to publish and discover Web Service. Web Service creates a kind of open distributed system that makes any enterprise and individual in any place can utilize Web Service and engage in various business activity. These characteristics make Web Services an ideal solution of e-Business.This thesis mainly discusses the basic concept of Web Services and technical specification systematically (XML, SOAP, WSDL and UDDI). Besides, there is a specific example about Catalog/Order to demonstrate the function of Web Services.This thesis includes six chapters:Chapter l:This chapter introduces the research background of this paper and the development of Web Services.Chapter 2:This chapter describes whole framework of Web services technologies, mainly discusses the definition of Web services, the model of Web services, the running mechanism and the technological framework of Web services.Chapter 3:This chapter mainly describes the foundation of Web services-XML, discussing the relevant concepts of XML in detail.Chapter 4.This chapter mainly discusses three supporting technologies of Web Services: SOAP, WSDL and UDDI, giving detailed explanation withexamples.Chapter 5:This chapter gives a B2B example application of Catalog/Order, introducing the implementation steps of Web Services.Chapter 6:This chapter discusses the weak points of Web Service, pointing out the next research directions and describe the future development of Web Service.
