Traditional distributed technologies had taken successes for enterprise information integration to some degree, but because of high cost, complex technology and difficult implementation, it is restricted to develop. At the same time, while they extend to web platforms, traditional enterprise applications based on distributed technologies encounter obstacles. So a set of new technology is needed to help to move enterprise applications to web platforms. XML and interrelated technologies which had been developed since 1998 are proved that they have the capability to solve these problems, and their great devotion is that they solve the representation and interchangeability of data among different platforms; later, SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) based on XML was established by Microsoft and IBM. On the base of the two technologies a kind of new technology, helping to integrate information, Web Service comes out.The distinct difference between Web Service and traditional web applications is that the latter helps humans to use the services of web, but Web Service helps computer system to use the services of web. With the broad use of Web Service, technology providers can be concentrated on the development of technology, and transfer the problem of interoperability to Web Service, which will save their cost greatly.The remarkable promise of Web Service is that it can implement dynamic integration. The key of dynamic integration is Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI). UDDI provides a set of criterion, which permit enterprises to publish their own business information and technical information of Web Service to UDDI registry, at the same time, the partners can find these information from UDDI registry, then invoke these web service. UDDI make enterprises use their existing applications to discover expediently, rapidly and finish business in a dynamic environment. UDDI strengthen the connection ability between the software based on web and other software, and materialize software as a kind of service.Web Service and its compositive technology are discussed deep in this thesis, and on the base of it, UDDI is emphasized. The data structure and programmers API are analysed. At the same time in order to explain that UDDI works as the base of Web Service, an example is used. Five chapters are included. The meaning and actuality of this thesis are introduced in chapter 1. Web Service technology architecture, its compositive technology and application field are discussed in chapter 2. UDDI isdissertated in detail in chapter 3, including data structure, programmers API, the mechanism of discovery and publish and the implementation of UDDI registry. With the support of theory, a prototype system of private UDDI registry is designed and implemented in chapter 4, and then using this system, a Web Service example on the base of UDDI is given. In chapter 5, there is the summarization and prospect of future work.
