The Rapid development of Internet promotes greatly the fast development of Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), a higher demand about the MANs has been put forward by the telecom carriers, and a new technology, Resilient Packet Ring(RPR) ,becomes a new choice for the technology of MAN.Along with the development of Broadband Access IP Network, a higher demand about the performance of broadband access server (BAS) has been brought forward.Because of the rapid self-recovery capability of the Resilient Packet Ring, it adapts to reconstruct the architecture of the star-based MANs so that the redundancy and load-sharing of broadband access server can be carried out.Based on the analysis about the actuality of broadband access of IP MANs and the advantage of Resilient Packet Ring, we propose an advanced network solution for the redundancy and load-sharing of broadband access server, and the experimental results show that proposed solution is effective.
