The digital network disk is a kind of new technical oupput based on virtual disk system architecture. The total network supported by server works as like a computer. This technology not only exerts the independent computing ability of workstation, but also reasonable utilize the center management characteristic of server. The digital network disk that has the interface of IDE is based on server/client. It can supply boot service without harddisk and special management. We can construct a stable and convenient network system without disk.The digital network disk adopts the new ARM technology and achieves the real Windows2000 / XP terminal without disk. PC terminal with digital network disk can finish all the processes. What server needs to do is supplying storage and boot service. That is, the workstation can support the resources that include CPU and memory by itself when software is running in the workstation.This thesis mainly introduces the development of terminal hardware. And the task of this thesis is to design the card of terminal and to program in the card. The design of card includes embedded development technology and IDE interface. The author uses a microcontroller with ARM7TDMI core in the card. In the following, this thesis explains ATA protocol and how to achieve the interface of IDE. This thesis introduces network transfer protocol in detail because the PC terminal can work under the support of server.This thesis mainly consists of seven chapters.The first chapter is a foreword, introducing the characteristic and the current of embedded development. It also introduces the digital network disk in detail. The readers will have abstract understand after they read this chapter.The second chapter introduces the IDE interface that includes physical characteristic and transfer protocol.The third chapter talks over the basement of the whole hardware that includes microprocessor S3C4510B and related knowledge about FPGA design.The forth chapter is the part of hardware, covering the interface between module and module.The fifth chapter introduces the process in the card. It explains BIOS firstly, and then introduces how to achieve ATA command. The subject about network transfer protocol will be described in Chapter 6.The sixth chapter introduces the base knowledge about network program and communication protocol in the digital network disk.The last chapter gives a summary about the system from software and hardware. And it also gives some ideas of how to improve the speed of digital network disk.
