Digital image is one of the most important the media of the information, which has directly perceived, vivid characteristic with abundant intension. However, because digital image's datas are numerous, it gives image storage, image transmission and image processing very great difficulty. A commonly used method to carry on this problem is digital image compression coding which, based on the premise that guarantees the quality of the image, reduces the data quantity of the image to the maximum extent, in order to reduce the amount that stores data, economizes transmission and processing's time. The good character of localization on wavelet transform bring a new method of digital image compression coding, it make this field full of vital force.This paper has deeply researched and discussed the applications of wavelet transform in digital image compression coding.In chapter 1, the task background of this paper is introduced first and the importance of image compression at present is pointed. The task that has been accomplished in this paper is also introduced.In chapter 2, the theory of wavelet transform and wavelet packets is mainly introduced. Then, the theory of multi-resolution analysis is discussed, and the fast wavelet transform—Mallat algorithm is introduced. Based on the theory of wavelet transform and wavelet packets, how to realize image analysis and synthesis by wavelet transform and wavelet packets is discussed.In chapter 3, the technology of image compression coding is mainly introduced, including the foundation theory and the classifying standard of image compression coding, and how to appraisal the quality of the compressed image.The chapter 4 has studied how to realize digital image mixing compression coding by wavelet transform, and puts forward a mixing coding algorithm based on wavelet transform accord with the systematic characteristic of human vision, and analyzes and compares the algorithm's experimental results. The experimental results shows: Compared with the traditional image compression 's method, the algorithm that this paper puts forward has guaranteed compression image's quality well, and makes compression image's size meet used demand.The chapter 5 applies image processing theory based the wavelet transform to the image processing in the virtual reality scene, puts forward a scalable compressing algorithm based the wavelet transform, and solves the smooth transition of the scalable image in the dynamic scene. The algorithm solves reducing the load of virtual reality system, raising the speed that the image shows in real time.
