Internet based on TCP/IP protocol is a kind of Packet Switch Network. As multimedia applications becoming more and more popular, Internet is too weak to satisfy the multimedia' transmission demand. Therefore, analyzing how to transmit real-time multimedia data on Internet has significant meanings. With the rapid development of multimedia application system, the question about how to transfer multimedia data cross gateway occurs. After analyzing current solving strategies, a new strategy——server assistance scheme is put forward and realized. The architecture and working scheme of this scheme are provided. The type, functions and format definition of control packets are also discussed. And then, run this scheme on a multimedia system, the results of experiences show the feasibility and validity of this scheme. After comparing to the current strategies, the advantages and application areas of this scheme are concluded.Congestion control is a key problem for real time applications. Analyzing the two challenges of transferring multimedia data on Internet, one is how to guarantee QoS, another is how to get along with TCP streams. Analyzing the current congestion control strategies used to transfer multimedia data in detail. The precondition of congestion control is how to get the parameters of QoS dynamically. If this can not be ensured, no matter how excellent arithmetic is a waste. The current research about it is mainly about RTP/RTCP protocol, so we analyze this protocol, especially in how to use it in congestion control areas.After researching the current strategies, a new unicast arithmetic is devised, which is based on RTP/RTCP protocol and rate control technology on sending end. Ether of the two challenges mentioned above is considered. Discuss the architecture and ideas of this arithmetic. The experience' results proved the feasibility and validity of this arithmetic.
