Multimedia applications transporting the real-time data on Internet become more and more at present, But because of the characteristic of multimedia data transport, It is a very difficult to transmit multimedia real-time data on Internet which does not offer a QoS (Quality of Service) guarantee, And services which TCP/IP suite can offer are far not enough to support this kind of applications now. That is to say, we should analyze the characteristics of multimedia data transmission, and adopt new technology support multimedia real-time data transmission applications.The thesis study and discuss mainly multimedia transport technology. Have introduce the state of real-time data transmission' research and its application in actual life at first in the article. Then discuss the characteristics of multimedia data transmission on Internet. These characteristic include loss, Length of consecutive packet loss, delay and jitter, and also discuss their relationships. Then put forward the key technology according to these characteristics which must be solved in real-time data transport. These technology include relevant protocols, multimedia synchronization, Packet-Loss Recovery, Congestion Control for Multimedia Communication.
