With the increasing amount of people connecting to the Internet and the fast development of various wireless access technologies, it becomes natural for users to except to be able to access the Internet at any time and from any where, and to remain connected and continue to use the network as they move about. To address this need, IETF has designed Mobile IP protocol to support mobile nodes operating in the Internet, which is how to handle the handoff problem different Access Points. Only if it can be well solved, the global seamless and smooth roaming scheme can be realized. The paper analyze two problem occurring in the handoff: handoff performance and QoS support, For the first, it researches on the handoff schemes used in Mobile Ipv4 and Ipv6. For the second, it introduces QoS conditionalized handoff is presented and emphasized: The handoff process are well described, two algorithms are given for the operations, including MN and Routers, in the network level, and further considerations for the process are also made. This handoff scheme enables the mobile node to flexibly choose among a set of available Access Points and search for a route which offers satisfying QoS. With people's rising requirements for services, this kind of handoff scheme will be highly valued, for it offers QoS guarantees for the moving users.
