ICAI Student Model Design And System Assessment

With the development of the science technology of today, computer information technology has been gradually introduced to education, which changed the traditional instruction methods, assisted the classroom teaching and learning, and became an important field in application. Education has stepped toward mass education and life long learning experience. The CAI system on the isolated computer environment has great limitations theoretically and technically. The network technology, artificial intelligence and cognitive psychology pushed the cognitive learning theory based ICAI system, which becomes new trend in the development of modern educational technology and is a channel for the education network. This paper started from the analysis to the CAI limitations and ICAI development periods, advantages, current situation and focuses. From the theory of CAI, the author illustrated the CAI fundamental theory—the cognitive theory, studied the particular problems concerning the application of cognitive theory to ICAI system. And illustrated the application of mental characteristics of individual to the system .Then a detailed illustration about ICAI system was presented, which included the formation and realization of cognitive warehouse, instructor models and people-computer interface. The emphasis was on the analysis to the realization of the student model and the summary about the limitations of ICAI concerning each realization method. Then the system demonstrated the process the formation of a student model and therefore, theoretically constructed a practical student model based on cognitive theory. Finally the author illustrated the assessments to the ICAI system and generalized the particular guideline, which was a helpful assistance to the development, and design of ICAI system.
