The Research And Realization Of ETL Metadata Based Telecom Warehouse

It is reported that the data quantity of an organization doubles every 5 years. So how to manage those complicated data and then have them facilitated decisions making has been the urgent demand of every organization. Under this requirement the research field of Data Warehouse is developed. It synthesizes heterogeneous data resources to form a uniform data iplatform. Data Warehouse has been recognized an efficient scheme to companies who own large amount of data and are not able to extract out information valuable for make decisions.Metadata is an important segment of data warehouse. It is the link of different parts of data warehouse. It functions in every detail of the establishment, maintenance, management and usage of Data Warehouse. But for real application, one company usually has a few different data market systems, and each system have different data warehouses and online analysis applications. The data format, data module and operation of each system and application are different. Thus the incompatible metadata is resulted, which greatly hampered the application of data warehouse. How to integrate metadata has been a hotspot of many organizations and research institutes.This paper introduced the conceptions related to metadata. An approach to integrate metadata is proposed. Then the manage strategy and the integrate system construction of metadata are discussed. Finally modeling the telecom data warehouse with the modeling applications of Rational Rose, and design ETL application to extract, transform and load the data from the data resource to integrate into data warehouse managed by metadata.
