VXIbus is an excellent platform used in the instrumentation and the automated test system. There are lots of advantages in the instrument system based on VXIbus, such as open architecture, modular system structure, high speed, high stability, easy to be integrated in automated test system, plug & play and so on. Research on design principle and the realization method of the VXIbus message-based interface are significant and valuable for VXIbus instrument module, specially for the design of particular instrument modules and improving the interchangeability of system unit based on VXIbus. Based on the detailed analysis of the automatic test technology and Virtual instrument technology, the VXIbus message-based interface has been researched. Its design principle and realization method as commander are given. Furthermore, the VXIbus message-based interface is successfully developed. The experiments show that the design functions of the VXIbus message-based interface are suit, and its principle is reasonable. This designed can be used to realize all functions of VXIbus message-based interface. Also the test-results show that the VXIbus message-based interface can meet the needs of the VXIbus system specification and special module, its data-transmit is stabile. The interface can accurate explain received word-serial protocol and can bring corresponding control signal.
