Data warehouse and on-line analysis process(OLAP) are two new technologies in commercial data deals fields. Data warehouse offer construction and tools for commercial business to organize,understand and use data systemically to make stratagem decision. OLAP application firstly organize data in mutil-dimensional, then integrate and pre-merge data, lastly it make some complex and special query.Spatial data warehouse absorb technologies about GIS,spatial database and dada warehouse. It is based on traditional data warehouse and adds spatial data in itself. Spatial data warehouse select all kinds information from different spatial data source, then it offer nice information service to spatial decision support process.This thesis we give brief summery of traditional data warehouse and OLAP at first two chapter, then analysis the logical and physical design about data warehouse, and introduce the characteristic of spatial data warehouse and some design problems.Data cube technology is the core of OLAP. It is necessary to pre-materialize measure in data cubes to accelerate the OLAP and reduce the process time. Selective materialization is a good choice considering the conflict between process time and store space. The materialization of spatial data cube is based on the traditional data cubes and is different from traditional materialization.The thesis mainly study some technologies about OLAP, including construction of data cubes,Selective materialization of traditional and spatial dada cubes. In the thesis we advance a way to construct data cube with code,and summarize a proper data structure.In the last chapter in thesis, we build a data warehouse prototype system with a region-crime topic, and construct data cube and simulate the "pointer intersection algorithm" which is a typical selective materialization algorithm on the data cube, finally we analysis the simulation's result, and explain the effectiveness of selective materialization.In thesis we study some parts of the main technologies of spatial data warehouse and OLAP, and these work will theoretically and practically guide the construction of spatial data warehouse and OLAP. This thesis's source is a part of National "15" science and technology item: The digitalize project of city layout&construction,management and services(item number: 2002BA107B). Our work in this thesis help to explore for the item construction.
