Study On Customization Of ERP Software And Its Implementation

During the process of China's construction, it is a necessary to adopt ERP systems that represent the most advanced management theory and method in the world. Customization is, however, a necessary part in implementing ERP systems. The paper first emphases on the necessity and effects of customization and then discussed the main problems solved by customization taking into consideration the actual situation of China.In a broad sense, ERP customization is a kind of programming and so the paper begins with the introduction of some basic concepts and theories in software engineering and goes on to discuss several typical methods and some new techniques used in software engineering such as software reuse and ICASE. Then the commonness and features specialized to customization are discussed as well as the general rules that need to follow during customization.The paper then goes into a brief introduction of the basic ideas, theory, history, function and modules, implementation, techniques, software market and future development of ERP software. ERP customization is then discussed with focus on the pros and cons of customization, how to decide whether a customization requirement is reasonable and how to decide on the right time to do customization. The customization requirements are divided into three kinds, Interface, reports, and logic changes and solutions provided to each kind.The paper gives 9 cases of ERP customization that the author participated and analyzes requirements, provides solutions, and talks about the key techniques and methods used in these cases, which is a detail study on the theory and experience on ERP customization with real cases.The paper also gives examples of results and gains of several ERP customization projects described above as evidence of the importance of ERP customization.As a summary, the paper in the last chapter summarizes the experiences gained during years of ERP customization work and points out some main issues to which attentions need to be paid during ERP customization and tries to give the author's own analysis and experience on these issues.
