TETRA digital trunking system is adopted by Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line, which is the first passenger main line in china, for its outstanding merits. Qua railway special radio communication system, it accomplishes communications among mobile personnel. It is also the first time to apply TETRA digital trunking system to railway commutation in the world, so there are many challenges.The application of TETRA digital trunking system in Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line is studied in this paper. The main contributions are as follows: TETRA digital trunking system is analyzed from the viewpoint of standards family, technical system, system composition and characteristics of operation functions. The design gist and technical standards are provided for the application of TETRA in Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line; Based on the design orientation about the communication system of Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line by Chinese Railway Department, the design ideas and design methods about TETRA digital trunking system of Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line are studied from the viewpoint of regional coverage analysis, system capacity forecasting, system frequency configuration, system composition and system functions. The design of TETRA digital trunking system of Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line is accomplished, and the necessity for scientific research test is discussed; The characteristics and general model of radio-propagation path-loss are studied. Combining the characteristic of radio propagation of Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line, the test approach of radio propagation is proposed, and the detailed test parameters are determined. Based on the field-intensity data obtained from the on-site testing of scientific-research experiment at Shan-Sui segment, a radio-propagation pass-loss model of the passenger main line is established by the method of minimum mean square error estimation, and the obtained model is also analyzed.The obtained results in this paper will benefit exerting advantages of TETRA adequately, and realize validity, rationality and advancement of the design to the utmost. This paper not only helps to meet the practical demands of Qin-Shen Passenger Main Line, but also accumulates experiences for the further application of TETRA in the Chinese passenger main line and high-speed railway.
