Displacement sensors are very common used in various technology fields. So much attention is being paid to research and development of new displacement sensors. In this paper, two new displacement sensor system based on polarized light detecting method and Faraday magneto-optical effect and their respect characteristics are first presented. Correspondingly, this thesis is divided into three parts:At first, the research background of long-range displacement sensor is being comprehensively reviewed.First part (Chapter 2): Study on theory of polarized light detecting method. Based on phenomena of polarized light and Faraday magneto-optical effect, detecting theory is studied. Optical devices and/or parts are also being introduced.Second part, including Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, first bring forward a novel displacement sensor - polarized displacement-current comparator, by using magneto-optical rotation phenomenon. Then discusses the comparator's structure. The sensor consists of four parts, including optical, mechanical, electrical, magnetic structures. The theoretic analyses and experiment data given in the paper indicate that the electrical output is entirely proportional to the rectilinear displacement measured. Chapter 4 is concerned with another detecting means: motor servo-comparator. First, it's measuring method, system construction, experimenting system and its debugging, error analysis are discussed. So a new type of long-range displacement sample, meeting industrial needs, is being introduced. The sensor has the characteristics of non-contact measurement, high sensitivity and simple structure.Third part, including Chapter 5 and Chapter 6, study on DSP based sensor system. In the aid of DSP, the software and hardware modules have been developed respectively. At last, experiment system and error analysis have been taken intensively.At last, the main achievements of this thesis are mentioned, the directions for further working are also pointed out. Absolute place detecting system is being mentioned.
