This paper analyses the fault management theory and the fault management technique of telecom data network by introducing the requirement and characteristic of telecom data network management, including fault collection, fault pretreatment, fault intelligent analysis,fault orientation and fault impact.Fault collection and fault intelligent analysis are emphases and difficulties.Because the telecom network dimensions is enormous,the network equipments are diversiform,the network framework is complex,so that fault collection is difficulty. We mostly aim on fault collection of network equipment fault,network performance and service,but the fault collection of the existent fault management system is added in order to fully utilize the manufacturer network management and avoiding waste. The primary fault collection method is SNMP Trap collection and Syslog collection, and it proved effective through practice.Because of the network particularity,the accessorial method is needed,including SNMP active collection, serial port collection and data-base collection. For important network equipment,we adopt Mrtg to monitor its important performance target,example for CPU utilize rate and memory utilize rate of equipment,and guarantee the network equipment safety.We adopt end to end performance collection to monitor performance condition of whole network.We can hold whole network performance condition through configuring the end to end performance exploration from backbone router to other network nodes and statistic to exploration data of each route.It is necessary that monitor the important network service. We can define some management target for network performance and service,and the performance alarm and service alarm will generate in case not reaching the target. We should fully utilize existent fault management system.At present the primary fault management system are Netcool and OpenView,we can obtain the fault information in fault management system through their external interface. Because the most manufacturer network management system do not provide the external interface of importing its fault information,there is no effective method to capture their fault information at present.But few manufacturer network management system is capable of importing its partial fault information,we can parse the fault data through refering to the equipment document of manufacturer and private MIB of manufacturer.It is necessary that unify the format of fault in order to managing fault information of vary manufacturer equipment. The fault information is divided into some fields,but it is necessary assuring full fault information.And it is advantageous to fault information compress and automation.There are a lot of repeated faults and instant aglimmer, sometimes the proportion even reach 99 percent and more. In order to decrease amount of repeated alarm,it is necessary that compress to alarm. The automation of fault aim on finishing the initialized and simple process,and maybe decrease amount of alarm.Fault intelligent analysis is still the emphase of fault management.The first aspect of fault intelligent analysis is pertinency analysis of fault.The fault of a network equipment of telecom network maybe generate a lot of derivative alarms,including radiate alarms, ascensive alarms and stimulant alarms.The alarms do not generate without foundation,but depend on the relationship of every partition of system.So we can clear the derivative alarms and find out the true reason of fault through dealing with the relationship of system.The second aspect of fault intelligent analysis is fault diagnoses.Providing the method of clearing fault is more important than discovering the reason of fault.Depending on fault information,we can collect and analyze the data in network equipment MIB through SNMP,and provide the method of clearing fault through specific equipment.Because fault orientation means finding out the truly position of fault on network topology,the precondition of fault orientation is the true topology discovery,so that we...
