Real-time database plays an important role in the architecture of CIPS(Computer Integrated Process System). As a key technology, it provides advanced process control with a basic integrated platform of plant information. In order to meet with the requirement of market, a real-time database system (RTDBS) with our own copyright is urged to be developed to compete with foreign ones. Based on it, the investigation, research and development were carried out. Finally a real-time database system, ESP-fSYS-A, was developed and put into use successfully. This paper is also supported by the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program) and the National Key Technologies R&D Program in the 10th Five-Year-Plan.The research results can be summarized as following:1. A new RTDBS architecture, which could provide advanced process control (APC) software with integrated real-time data service, was put forward considering the status of poor supporting ability to APC software in present RTDBS. This architecture was based on COM/DCOM technology, and took the advantage of multi-layer distribution.2. According to the feature of process industry, the properties of configuration data and process data were defined. On the basis of these, data storage model and data service model were built.3. With the aid of interface technology, a general data collection framework, was presented in order to adapt RTDBS to the various interfaces of control systems. It greatly reduced the difficulty in the implementation of interface engineering.4. Two optional storage methods, which included memory storage and disk storage, were brought forward and put into use in PTDBS to satisfy with the access demand of APC software. Swinging Door Compression technology was used in the disk storage, and has taken good effect on data storage.5. ActiveX Scripting technology was applied into the system to strengthen the ability of customization. With the help of it, APC software could easily realize custom functions, such as the switch of controller, the monitor of communication, etc.6. Various types of interfaces, such as OPC, DDE, API, ActiveX control, etc, were supplied by RTDBS to satisfy with the need of APC software.7. ESP-/SYS-A system, which was designed and developed in this dissertation, was applied to a data mining project of pesticide factory successfully.Finally, on the basis of the summarization of the research work in this dissertation, the further development about RTDBS is discussed.
