The Research & Implementation On Secure Multicast For Modern Distance Education

Modem distance education is a new style of education, which is implemented by multimedia technologies, network communication technologies and modern education technologies. And the network application systems of it belong to a cooperation system between teachers and students. Multicast is viewed as a means of data transportation to support the communication of multiple parties, so it is widely adopted in many network applications of modern distance education, for example the transportation of teaching video stream, the electronic whiteboard and the virtual lab on network etc.Unlike security of unicast, there are not enough attention and research which are paid to the security problems of multicast. As a communication means of multiple parties, the security problems of multicast are more sophisticated than that of unicast. And the secure multicast schemes that have been requested are not suitable for all scenarios of multicast applications.Based on the analysis of the features of multicast applications in modern distance education, the dissertation requests a secure multicast scheme for modern distance education. For providing the most flexibility to fulfill requirements of different secure multicast application, the content of the scheme is define with a framework based on policies. The scheme also is scalable for different multicast applications with different multicast group size.Lastly, the dissertation presents the design and implementation of secure multicast for the electronic whiteboard to prove the correctness and performance of the scheme.
