With the development of industrial automation, the transmission among the SCADA(Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition )system is increasing and the exchanged data become more complex yet. The openness, interlinkage, network bandwidth and the speed of communications become more and more important. Due to its low speed, high cost and multiple standard, the FCS(Fieldbus Control System) hardly comes up with the requirement. As one of the rapid development technologies, Ethernet has become the preferred network solution for the SCADA system because of its ubiquitous application, low cost, high speed and abundant software and hardware resources.The typical application form of Ethernet is Ethernet+ TCP/IP. That is to combine a versatile, scaleable, and ubiquitous physical network (Ethernet) with a universal networking standard (TCP/IP), which make it extraordinarily easy for Ethernet to integrate into the information network represented with the Internet and the Web technology. Therefor, Schneider Electric introduced Ethernet-based Transparent Factory automation solutions, the core of which is Ethernet and TCP/IP. Using the industrial de facto standard MODBUS protocol in application layer, Transparent Factory is an open automation framework based on Internet technologies that provides seamless communication between plant floor and business systems.This paper, together with the communication feather of SCADA system, studies the communication principle of Ethernet, analyzes the key technologies of industrial Ethernet and the performance of the Ethernet-based Open Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. The implement and performance of the open supervisory experimental system based on Transparent Factory demonstrates that industrial Ethernet can meet the real-time transmission well for the SCADA system and the system is open. So the industrial Ethernet will be the fieldbus's development trend.
