As a practical project from Changzhou Marine Cable Co. Ltd, the equipment function analysis and the development of Maintenance Information Management System (EMIMS) were researched in this paper. First of all, the new situation of the domestic and international maintenance field and the status of commission enterprise were analyzed. A proposal for establishing a new maintenance system based upon RCM theory was presented and the process to complete the system in two stages was given. Secondly, the function of GSB-2 High Speed Braider, an important equipment in the enterprise, was analyzed based on Function Analysis Theory and CAD technology. The relations between malfunctions and corresponding parts were established. Then the 3D models of the malfunction parts were constructed. All of these works could lay the foundation for the new maintenance system. Thirdly, the database was designed according to RCM theory and the function analysis results. The EMIMS was developed by using the system development tool PowerBuilder. Aimed the daily works in the maintenance department, EMIMS could standardize the works, collect and manage all kinds of maintenance data and materials. The data and equipment status analysis needed by administrative staffs could be output from EMIMS at the same time.In conclusion, the development of EMIMS would be favorable to the maintenance work standardization and regularity so that equipment maintenance management could go along orderly by accumulating data. The original manner only relying on experience, intuition and courage could be got rid of. In this way, the equipment maintenance and management levels in the enterprise could be promoted greatly.
