Background Cancer is the second death cause of China now. There are many researches on cancer and many effective productions of cancer prevention and cure. Unfortunately, due to deficiency of a standard and nationwide way to share cancer information, those productions are very hard to access and generalize, thus there are often repeatedly research and waste of property.Purpose To establish China cancer database, by which to popularize cancer knowledge and to promote data sharing , thus to reduce the harm of cancer.Transplant China Cancer Database from visual foxpro 6 to oracle8.17 and rewrite the internet interface with JSP/Servlet. Integrate software R with this database to update its chart function and accomplish the cancer distribution thematic mapsMaterials and Methods Data: The data sources are extensively, including that twice death cause review investigated in the 70's and the 90's of the whole nation, the cancer register data, the cancer research data and the clinical information of tumor hospitals etc. Hardware: Legend T2600, Compaq Evo W6000. Software: SuSE linux 7.3, Oracle 8.17, J2sdk se 1.4.0, R 1.6.0Results This database has been transplanted to Oracle 8.17 and is running on linux open systemand with three tiers structure in oracle developed by JSP/Servlet. Its chart function and map are implemented by software R and ALOV.Conclusion The performance of this database has been updated by several measures. Through its internet interface user can get graph and letter data of death cause review investigated in the 70's and the 90's of thee whole nation now besides the disease distribution thematic maps and do some statistic work.
