The Establishment Of China Cancer Database For Prevention And Control

Background: Cancer is the second leading cause of the death in China. A plentiful amount of data and information were cumulated through the various large scale epidemiological and clinical studies. Due to the lack of the reliable data-sharing approaches and system, the information regarding the research results is difficulty disseminated to medical societies and general population. It hampered the further cancer research and promotion of the quality of life.Purpose: To establish the China Cancer Data-base for Prevention and Control, provide the Internet-based cancer morbidity and preventive information and promote the dada sharing reduce the cancer burden among Chinese people.Materials and Methods: Data came from the national mortality surveys for all causes in the 1970's and 1990's, cancer register data, the large-scale epidemiological studies for cancers of cervix, esophagus and lung, as well as from major national cancer hospitals, etc. Legend server T2600 and Acer Veriton 7100-M have been used as major Hardware. Software included java developing tool kits JDK se 1.4.0, ultraEdit-32, Tomcat4.0, PostgreSQL database system, Debian linux 3.0 operator.Results: The three tiers structure China Cancer Database has been established which including client page, application tier and database system. The clients canquery the dynamic produced cancer distribution map, statistic figures and the result of hypothesis test.Conclusion: The China Cancer Database works friendly through Internet and all the dynamic functions of cancer map, statistic figures and statistical analysis results can easily be retrievable in real time.
