This paper researches deeply the implementation of MPLS technology in Tbit router. Based on the analysis of the principle of MPLS technology, it studies the feasibility of the integration of the QoS and the traffic engineering under the framework of the MPLS technology. And a detailed analysis is given for the requirement of the MPLS to support the DiffServ model.This paper analyzes the relationship between the DS-TE (DiffServ-aware Traffic Engineering) technology and MPLS Traffic Engineering from the angle of traffic engineering. Furthermore, it gives a discussion on the realization of the DS-TE technology. Then a scheme named DiffServ+DS-TE is proposed for the next generation broadband backbone network. Considering the features of the Terabit router, this paper provids an implementation scheme for the Tbit router. The main work of this paper is as follows: Analyzing the mechanism of MPLS and summarizing the features and advantages of MPLS, and also discussing the feasibility of the implementation of the QoS technology and the traffic engineering under the framework of the MPLS technology; Researching on the method for MPLS to support the DiffServ model. Because of their similar design philosophy, MPLS can provide full support for DiffServ model. Researching on the DS-TE technology and analyzing the protocol implementation problem and its protection mechanism. A conclusion is drown that DS-TE technology can optimize the use of network resources under the DiffServ scheme. Based on the research of QoS and traffic engineering technology, this paper proposes a all in one technical scheme "DiffServ+DS-TE" which can be used in core network and gives the design objective of the scheme in our Tbit router. The scheme can provide end-to-end QoS assurance and improve the network resource usability. According to the two functional plane architecture of Tbit router, this paper designs and implements the "DiffServ+DS-TE" technical scheme, giving the modules division method according to the functionality division of control plane and data plane and the overall work flow of the scheme. It layes emphasis on the design of line card interface module and forwarding processing module in the data plane. In the design of forwarding processing module, this paper compare two table lookup methods-series table lookup and circular table lookup-and concludes that circular table lookup method can provide better support for label stack.
