PACS ( picture arching and communication systems) has been developing with the progress in digital photography, computer technology and internet techniques. It has been applied in radiographic department or even larger medical images information management system in order to solve the problems of image collection, demonstration,memory, transmission and management produced by CT, MRI, PET, US and so on. This subject aims at the PACS system construction in our hospital , the digitalization of radiology department , the analysis of benefit of the application of PACS.Materials and methodsMaterials:一, hardware requirments1.PACS service: SUN E450; 2. PACS memory system: multiple PC memory system; 3. Marconi MX8000 multilayer spiral CT and other instrucments that satisfy DICOM3.0 standard; 4. photographic diagnosis and writing terminals; 5. central node:exchanger,LianXiang collector 6. transmission media: UTP, 1000MB photofiber; 7. internet structure: radial topo structure.二, software requirments1. PACS service: Solaris2. 6; MPCSS service-. Red Cap Linux; photographic diagnosis terminals: Windows 98 edition fl ; 2. internet transmission principle: TCP/IP; 3. data management system: Oracle 8. 1; 4. service - end program and user - end program: NAS - PACS2.0 file management subordinate system and photographic diagnosis subordinate system; 5. photo collection and handling program:NAS -PACS 2.0 pretreatment system,CT and MRI data collection , ultrasound AV collection.Methods:Every instrument is integrated to form a radial topo type local net to realize the digitalization and network application in radiographic department.This dissertation analyses the changes in department mangement, work efficiency,economic benefit after the usage of PACS for one year and analyses the efficiency of PACS.ResultWe have constructed PACS local net , set up related software and realized the collection, posttreatment, transmission, filement, memory, diagnosis, printing and browsing of report of image.1. Great changes in department management. (1) . CR: the con-strast degree can be modified to bring about the lesion focus in diag-nosid and writing terminals. (2) . CT and MRI:window width/window location can be modified, CT value can be computed in the same terminal. (3). Report writing can be computed by computer to standardize the report. Report template of normal and typical cases can be transferred. (4). Film management: All the materials can be memo-rized in PACS which can save a lot of space and facilitate inquire. (5). Digitalized teaching film storage can be constructed.2. Economic analysisThere are several aspects in the economic benefit analysis in PACS which should be appraised in the light of the whole hospital. As for the PACS department, we selected the film - saving model to compute the economic benefit brought about by PACS. In the case of radio-graphic department, after none film management,572 thousands yuan can be saved and the capital outlay can be reacouped in 2 to 3 years.3. Photo - reading time decreased by 15. 8% and photo - retaken rate decreased by 78. 5% . The working efficiency of doctors increased by 54.5%. These are all brought about by the advantages of PACS especially the posttreatment of images.4. New memory instruments " MPCSS" increases the function -price ratio of PACS . We have designed MPCSS ourselves which are divided into three classes memory; the first class, RAID I on SUN E450, which is used to memorize recent 10 to 15 days data; the second class,memory PC,to memorize data after 15 days. When there is less space in MPCS, more PC can be added to increase the memory capacity which feasibilizes the memory of vast number of digital and image material.DiscussionPACS enables the digiatlized collection , partial none - film memory and management of images.
