In these years , along with the rapid developing of computer networks , the administrative task of computer networks has become more and more complex. Network management is one of the most important fields in computer network research now.TCP/IP protocol family is the most widely used computer network protocol family in the world . Recommended by IAB(Internet Activities Board), SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) is a standard management protocol for TCP/IP-based networks .This system use client/server architecture .Its framework includes the following parts: â– Manager â– Agent â– MIB(Management Information Base) â– SNMP protocolA manager collects, processes, stores, and displays network data.An agent is a software application that is responsible for reporting on and maintaining information related to one or more devices on the network. An agent gives network information to a manager.SNMP Management Information Base (MIB) is a collection of many pieces of information, called MIB objects, that are located on the network device. The MIB objects can be accessed and sometimes changed by the agent at the manager's request.SNMP protocol enables a manager to communicate with the agents in its network . Managers use SNMP protocol to ask agents to retrieve and change information about network devices .This thesis first discusses SNMP , the standard network management protocol for TCP/IP-based networks , and then analyzes IBM' s network management products - NetView and System Monitor . In the last , this thesis describes how NetView and System Monitor are used in fuyang electric power information Network management system.
