Design And Development Of Journal Management Information System

Editorial Board of Journal is a publishing section, its work is quite heavy. Journal edilting is responsible for the organizing, checking, editing, publishing and distributing the journals. The office is facing the problems of less clerks with heavy workload and daily affairs. And the backward manual management system gives more rise to the workload influencing the work ef-feicency and quality. In solving the problem the author "custom-designs" a reasonably-structured , suitable for the editotial works management system-Journal Management Information System. This article divides the whole development process of editorial management inlormation system into system analysis, system design, system application, system running and system summaring those stages according to the theory of development of the management information system and the method of structural development for system.First the author analyzes the work from the point of view of the whole and specifiely analyzes the drafts management, journal thisis management, checking expert management and the distributing work. On this basis the author designs the management system which includes the drafts management, journal thisis management, checking expert management and the distributing work management. And it includes the six functioning modules: registering, inquiring, re-vizing, counting, printing and browzing. The design details of the operating window and the specific operating for each module are explained in the article, embodying the author' s design style. By designing 25 function buttons, 22 operatin windows and 8 printing formats, the author basically achieves the Computer-Aided Design for the variety of the journal managements. In the design process of the management system, advanced C++Builder 5.0 is used as the front software development tool, the Paradox database as the back database, Windows 2000 (Chinese Version) as the platform for the system designing, testing and running. Since the management system has been finished, it has been tested , revised and pefected lor many times and finally put into application, achiving the expected effects.The functions of the management system are; the registering, enquiring, revising, statistics, printing and browzing for the drafts, the article thisis, the proofreading experts' information and and the journal publishing units. The work in the office has been simplified owing to the new management system.In summary, the journal management system has the following features:1 ). Complete Functions. The management system includes almost all the affairs of edilting ranging from drafting, checking to publishing and distributing.2). Easy to Use. The operation in each function module in the system is indicated by the bul-tons engraved with Chinese. Thus the whole management system is easy to learn and use. 3 ). Sharing of the Database. All the data can be input once and used for many limes. Thus a-void the repeat of the input of data.4). Standard Programmed and Automated Editting. In the process of editting the editor can fin-ish many forms with the help of the management system. The forms are standard and easy to read compared with the manscripts.5). Improved Work Efficiency. All the routine editting work can be finished efficiently and fast with the management system.The development of this management can improve the editting quality and service level. The functions of the system can be further bettered later because the whole system is comprised of many independent modules, thus the system is perfected gradually.
